Minutes of the informal meeting on the 7.9.98

Present : Dieter Schlatter, Giuseppe Bagliesi, Vitaliano Ciullo, Daniele Lamponi, Guenther Dissertori

First there was some discussion of how to implement the locking system of tracks etc. as we have it in ALPHA. The major problem could be to keep the C++ system with the BOS system "aligned", which is needed if we want to use the Fortran Code for several ALPHA utilities.
Vitaliano Ciulli agreed to prepare a design for the implementation of track lists, iterators and locking.
Dirk Duelmann should be contacted to get info on the status of releases. At the time of minutes writing, Guenther Dissertori has done this and got the following information:
- The new Objectivity Version 5 is to appear now, in fact, at CERN they have release candidates which are already tested, eg. by COMPASS. Jamie Shiers is on the way to get the discs. This release is also for DEC, and in principle there should be no more problems regarding compilers and STL.
- On shift50 we have a big disk now for database storage. In principle one could see the disk from hpplus via the Objty-Utilities (it is not seen from AFS!), so one could put the database there already now. However, Dirk and I decided to wait for the beginning of October (when both of us will have time again) and try to move everything to DEC, i.e. to Aloha and shift50!
Daniele Lamponi (Summerstudent) will be here until the 25th of September. During that period we thought that he could try to look at already written code (by BABAR) for routines such as Thrust or Jet finding and check if this code is easily implementable in our environment. In order to get our hands on BABAR code, it was decided to contact Bob Jacobsen and John Walsh.
Giuseppe Bagliesi will help Daniele regarding code implementation, and he will give a plenary talk in Mainz regarding the ALPHA++ project.
Dieter Schlatter will ask Paolo Palazzi to give us a report about modern analysis tools and his ideas about using existing software for analysis.
